Macy Piersiak Obituary, Rutland, Vermont Death – Teen Killed in Shrewsbury Crash Following Alleged Underage Drinking Party

The tragic death of 17-year-old Macy Piersiak has left communities in Massachusetts and Vermont mourning a heartbreaking loss as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash that claimed her life in Shrewsbury, Vermont, on Nov. 10, 2024.

According to Vermont State Police, Macy was killed after losing control of a 2019 Dodge Ram on Cold River Road during the early morning hours. The vehicle reportedly struck a guardrail before crashing into a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later determined her blood alcohol level was 0.179%, more than twice the legal driving limit in Vermont.

The investigation has since led to criminal charges against former Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union superintendent Kristin Hubert, 48, and her husband, John-Henry Hubert, 54. The Rutland couple was indicted by a grand jury on charges of enabling underage consumption of alcohol resulting in death. Authorities allege the couple hosted a gathering at their home attended by Macy and other teenagers prior to the crash.

Investigators say multiple witnesses described alcohol being consumed during the gathering, with reports indicating Macy allegedly purchased alcohol using a fake identification card and a credit card connected to the Hubert family. Court documents also state that police recovered photos and videos from Macy’s phone showing alcohol consumption at the residence.

The heartbreaking case has sparked conversations across the region about underage drinking, parental responsibility, and teen safety. Macy is being remembered by friends and loved ones as a young woman whose life ended far too soon, leaving lasting grief among those who knew her.

The Huberts are expected to appear in Rutland County criminal court on June 1 as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
