Terrance J. Scanlon Jr. of Philadelphia passed away on May 24, 2026, at the age of 32, leaving behind heartbroken family members, friends, former classmates, players, and the wider Archbishop Ryan community mourning the loss of a beloved mentor and friend.
Terrance, a 2012 graduate of Archbishop Ryan High School and current freshman basketball coach, was widely admired for his dedication to helping others and his passion for giving back to the community that helped shape him. Raised in Philadelphia’s Chalfont neighborhood, he attended Our Lady of Calvary School before graduating from Archbishop Ryan in 2012.
Following high school, Terrance earned his undergraduate degree from West Chester University and later completed his master’s degree at Saint Joseph’s University. Though accomplished academically, those closest to him say his greatest pride came from mentoring young athletes and building meaningful relationships through basketball.
As freshman basketball coach at Archbishop Ryan, Terrance became known not only for teaching the game, but for encouraging confidence, discipline, and character in his players. Friends and former students describe him as compassionate, supportive, and deeply invested in the success of others both on and off the court.
Loved ones say Terrance brought warmth, humor, and sincerity into every room he entered. His passing has prompted an overwhelming outpouring of condolences from former teammates, students, friends, and community members reflecting on the lasting impact he made throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to visitation services on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home. A second visitation will be held Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 a.m. until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Calvary Church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Terrance’s memory may be made to the Archbishop Ryan High School Boys Basketball program.
