The Pennsylvania community is mourning the tragic loss of Keenan Cryts, a 23-year-old from Pottsville, who died following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Berks County during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 24, 2026.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 1:56 a.m. along State Route 183 (Bernville Road), just north of North 4th Street in Bernville. Investigators reported that a black Tesla sedan traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that caused the vehicle to veer off the road.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and found both occupants suffering from serious injuries. Keenan Cryts, who was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, sustained critical trauma and was transported to a nearby trauma center for emergency treatment. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, he later died from his injuries at Reading Hospital at approximately 11:19 p.m. that evening.
Investigators stated that the 23-year-old driver, also from Pottsville, is suspected of operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash. Authorities noted that the driver was wearing a seat belt, while Cryts was reportedly not restrained during the collision. No formal charges have been announced as the investigation remains active.
