A desperate search is underway in Spain for a British woman who vanished while attempting to travel home to the United Kingdom with her beloved dog.
Wendy Iles was last heard from at around 9 p.m. on Sunday in the Alfafar area near Valencia, according to her family. Concern grew after she failed to board a scheduled ferry from Caen, France, back to Britain on May 23.
Her daughter, Louise, has since launched an urgent public appeal for information, saying her mother disappeared while travelling with her Springer Spaniel. According to Louise, Wendy had been driving a campervan during her journey through Spain, but during their final conversation, she reportedly sounded confused and claimed the vehicle had been stolen.
Family members now fear something may have happened to her after her mobile phone was switched off and all communication suddenly stopped. Louise also believes her mother’s passport may have been stolen.
Concerned relatives contacted police in both Spain and the United Kingdom, with Interpol also reportedly alerted as the search effort intensifies.
Wendy was believed to be travelling through the areas of Silla, Alfafar and Russafa, just south of Valencia city, before continuing north toward France for the ferry crossing. However, she never arrived for the scheduled departure.
She is described as being around 5 feet tall and was last known to be travelling with her dog, a springer spaniel.
Louise has turned to social media and expat community forums in hopes of reaching fellow travellers and residents who may have seen her or have information about her whereabouts.
Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities immediately.
